about

SubCastCo is pleased to welcome back Joseph Blane whose previous release ‘The Spider Room’ received some well earned reviews and significant air time across the web of independent radio shows.

Whilst not a direct thematic follow up, ‘Nocturnal Woes’ does bring more eerie & atmospheric wonky smooth jazz inflections but through a filter of gloomy introspection and miasmic brain fog.

Joseph offered the following notes.

“So the album is called 'Nocturnal Woes'. It's a mellower affair than my debut. It came about as a result of a bunch of improvised guitar doodles I recorded late at night. Having decided that I wanted to develop these guitar pieces into something bigger, I decided to reach out to a few musicians I know to see if they were willing to contribute/collaborate to the recordings, which they were.
Tom Bailey from the US added some bits of saxophone, trumpet, clarinet & flute. And Eddie Rorschach & Allison Coldrain from Venezuela added some fretless bass and electric piano.

When I received all their parts, I decided to take a minimalistic and reductionist approach to arranging and mixing this album. The end result is a collection of fairly bare and minimalistic guitar improvisations, with other fleeting sounds and instruments continually drifting in and out of the mix.”

We are very pleased to offer our listeners this new set of songs by Joseph Blane, released in digital format and on cassette.
